Precautions for the Installation of Ceramic Corrugated Packing

When installing ceramic corrugated packing, the following points need to note to ensure the installation quality and the normal operation of the equipment:

I. Installation Preparation of Ceramic corrugated packing

  1. Transportation Tools and Equipment
    • Use appropriate transportation tools to transport the required packing to the installation site. Prepare a hoist or crane to lift the packing to the man – hole entrance.
  2. Personal Protective Equipment
    • Provide safety helmets, safety belts, gloves and other labor protection supplies for installers to ensure their personal safety during the installation process.
  1. Tower Interior Preparation
    • Carry out anti – corrosion and protection work inside the tower. Place a support plate (also known as a sieve plate) to support the packing. Check the tower body, including the welds of the cylinder. The protrusion height inside the tower should be less than 3 mm; otherwise, it should meet the requirements. Also, check whether the detector wall damaged and handle any non – conformities.
  2. Packing Inspection
    • Check the quality of the ceramic corrugated packing to ensure it meets the design requirements. Make sure the packing has no obvious cracks, breakages or deformations. Remove any debris or impurities on the packing surface.

II. Installation Process

  1. Tool Requirements
    • The tools required for installation include a tape measure, a stone pen, a brown rope, scissors, wire cutters, a hand – held grinder, etc.
  2. Packing Arrangement
    • Arrange the ceramic corrugated packing plates according to the box numbers on the assembly drawing in advance so that the required numbers can easily find during installation.
  3. Lifting and Placement
    • Lift the packing using special tools. It strictly prohibited to directly tie the packing with ropes for lifting. During handling, handle it with care to avoid damage to the packing. The whole packing should not loosen during the installation process. Wrap the packing with a brown rope according to the number on the tower and send it into the tower through the man – hole.
  4. Installation Angle and Sequence
    • When installing, each layer of packing should install from the edge to the center. After installing one layer of packing, the next layer should install at a 45 – degree angle to the previous layer (in some cases, each layer of packing should be installed with a 90 – degree angle stagger with the lower – layer packing’s corrugated plates), and the installation should continue until the design height is reached.
  1. Gap Adjustment
    • If the ceramic corrugated packing is smaller than the required size, appropriately adjust the gap between single pieces, with each gap not exceeding the product’s wave peak or wave distance. If the gap is smaller than the wave peak or wave distance, use clips to fill the gaps. If the packing is larger than the tower diameter, use a special saw to cut it to the appropriate size.
  2. Cleaning During Installation
    • Clean up the ceramic slag generated by packing collisions during the installation process to prevent it from entering the packing layer and affecting the performance of the packing. Ensure that no debris or iron wires are in the tower during the packing installation process.

III. Post – installation and Safety

  1. Fixation and Sealing
    • Fix the ceramic corrugated packing in the tower. For example, fix the packing on the upper part of each tower section with a well – tightened pressure ring or spot – weld it to the inner wall of the tower to prevent the packing from loosening and breaking under the impact of airflow. Use high – temperature – resistant materials such as glass fiber, asbestos or polytetrafluoroethylene tape to wrap around the packing disc to seal the gap between the packing disc and the inner diameter of the tower, preventing wall flow.
  2. Internal Component Inspection
    • After installation, ensure that all fasteners such as bolts and nuts tightened as required by the component drawings, without any omissions or loose parts. Check whether all distribution holes of the liquid distributor are unobstructed and clean up any welding slag and other debris in the tower.
  3. Fire – prevention Measures
    • Avoid any open – flame operations inside the tower during and after the installation process to prevent the packing from catching fire. If it is necessary to carry out open – flame operations inside the tower, corresponding fire – prevention measures taken. For example, lay wet asbestos cloth at the welding position to prevent welding slag from falling into the packing layer, and prepare fire – fighting water. There must be a dedicated person on – site to supervise when welding inside the tower.

By strictly following these installation precautions, the installation quality of ceramic corrugated packing can be effectively guaranteed, and the efficient operation of the tower equipment can be promoted.
