High-strength activated alumina is a fine chemical product prepared through special processes. It has attracted wide attention in various industries due to its unique physical and chemical properties and excellent performance.
Physical and Chemical Properties
It is mainly composed of alumina. Through high-temperature calcination and activation treatment during the preparation process, it features a high specific surface area, which can reach 300 – 1000 square meters per gram. This large specific surface area provides more reaction sites and adsorption space, endowing it with outstanding adsorption performance. The material is in the form of spherical particles with a smooth surface, high mechanical strength, and is odorless. It is insoluble in water and alcohol solvents, and after absorbing water, it does not crack, expand, or deform.
Production Process
Typically, high-strength activated alumina is produced by heating and dehydrating aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide, also known as hydrated alumina with the chemical formula Al₂O₃·nH₂O, can be classified into different types according to the amount of crystal water. After heating and dehydration, it turns into γ – Al₂O₃, commonly known as activated alumina.
Applications
Catalyst and Catalyst Carrier
In the petrochemical and fertilizer industries, high-strength activated alumina is widely used as a catalyst and catalyst carrier. Its large specific surface area and high activity can increase the reaction rate and improve the efficiency of chemical reactions.
Adsorbent
- Gas and Liquid Drying: It serves as an efficient desiccant for deep drying of trace moisture. In industries such as petrochemical, textile, oxygen production, and automation instrument air drying, as well as pressure swing adsorption in the air separation industry, it can achieve a drying depth of up to a dew point temperature below -60°C, and even below -70°C under certain conditions. It is very suitable for heatless regeneration devices.
- Water Treatment: It can be used as a defluorinating agent for high-fluoride drinking water, with a large defluorination capacity. It is also used in the dechlorination and purification of water, helping to improve water quality.
- Other Adsorption Applications: It can be used for deodorization and formaldehyde removal in the air, as well as the removal of organic substances in the environment.
Other Applications
In the field of anti-corrosion materials, high-strength activated alumina can also play a certain role due to its special structure and chemical properties, providing protection for equipment and structures.
In conclusion, high-strength activated alumina, with its unique properties and wide range of applications, has become an important material in modern industry and environmental protection, and its future development potential is also very broad.
