Activated alumina, also known as activated alumina, is a porous, highly dispersed solid material with a large surface area. Its microporous surface has properties required for catalytic reactions, such as adsorption performance, surface activity, and excellent thermal stability. Therefore, it widely used as a catalyst and catalyst carrier in chemical reactions. 12-14mm activated alumina is a specification of activated alumina, which has the general characteristics of activated alumina and also has its own unique application scenarios due to its particle size.
Physical and Chemical Properties of 12-14mm Activated Alumina
- Physical properties: 12-14mm activated alumina is generally in the form of spherical porous particles with uniform particle size, smooth surface, and high mechanical strength. It has strong hygroscopicity, and after absorbing water, it does not expand or crack and remains in its original state. It is non-toxic, odorless, and insoluble in water and ethanol. The bulk density is 500-900kg/m³ .
- Chemical properties: It is an amphoteric oxide with stable chemical properties. It is insoluble in water and slightly soluble in alkalis and acids. The pH value of 100g/L aqueous solution at 25°C is around 8.5-10.5. It has high temperature resistance and can maintain its stability at high temperatures.
Applications of 12-14mm Activated Alumina
- Adsorbent: Due to its strong adsorption capacity, 12-14mm activated alumina can be as an adsorbent in water treatment, air purification and other fields. For example, it can adsorb heavy metals in water, and can also be as a desiccant for gases and liquids, suitable for non-thermal regeneration devices. In the field of air purification, it can adsorb harmful gases such as formaldehyde and benzene.
- Catalyst and catalyst carrier: In the petroleum industry and chemical industry, many chemical reaction processes use activated alumina as a catalyst or catalyst carrier. activated alumina, with its appropriate particle size and good mechanical strength, used in fixed-bed reactors to provide a stable reaction environment for chemical reactions.
- Other fields: It also used in the field of column chromatography for the separation and purification of organic compounds, natural products, biopolymers, etc. In addition, it can be as a deacidifying agent for transformer oil and turbine oil.
Precautions for Using 12-14mm Activated Alumina
- Storage: It is sensitive to humidity and stored in a dry environment to avoid moisture absorption and affecting its performance.
- Regeneration: After the adsorption saturated, it regenerated by heating at about 175-315°C to remove water. During the regeneration process, attention should be paid to controlling the heating temperature and time to ensure the regeneration effect.
- Safety: It is non-toxic and harmless, but care should be taken to avoid dust inhalation during use. When in contact with the skin, it should be washed with water in time.
